The 2nd Annual MIMVPA Military Vehicle Show and Swap Meet June 8, 9, 10, 2012: The event will be held in Oscoda on the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base (SAC) at and on the grounds of the very historic Wurtsmith Air Museum, 3961 E Airport drive, Oscoda, MI 48750. The show hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 9 AM until 12 Noon on Sunday the 10th. You must be a member of MIMVPA, or join at the time of registration to display a vehicle or set up as a vendor. The MINIMUM registration fee to set up outside on the event grounds as a vendor or display a vehicle is $10 - which equals a half year membership in our organization and would include 2 of our quarterly Newsletters, the "Main Journal". If you would rather not be a member no problem; just indicate so when you register; the minimum cost is still $10. We do, however, encourage and invite those that are able to just go ahead and join our group for a whole year at $20 if you can afford it, and to help with expenses; we would also really appreciate it. Thank You! For the general public the show is free and there is no admission charge. Although we will have the usual array of Military Vehicles of all types, the 'Theme' of the 2012 Show will be 'Military Motorcycles'. We will be working on attracting 'in service, issued' types of historic and current day military motorcycles, we also encourage and welcome all Military, Veteran, Active Duty, Fallen Hero Dedicated, and other Military Service Commemorating and Patriotic CIVILIAN MOTORCYCLES for display. The civilian motorcycles will be displayed in close proximity to but somewhat separated from the Military Issued Motorcycles. We are working closely with www.bikergarage101.com, home of the 'Melvin Motorcycle Museum',- the one and only motorcycle museum in Michigan. They are located only a few blocks away from the Show Site. We are also working with and for the benefit of our hosts, the 'Wurtsmith Air Museum' and will be coordinating aircraft fly-ins. In addition, the 'Veterans Memorial Park of Northeast Michigan' is also located a short distance from the Show Site. Accommodations: There will be NO camping on the Show grounds or adjacent parking areas; these are Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Authority rules. A small number of MIMVPA Board Members and their designees will be staying on the site at night in their Display Military Vehicles or Military Tent in order to provide security. There are hundreds of lodging and camping opportunities available in the immediate vicinity of the show site and Oscoda area in general. In addition, a very strong local supporter of the MIMVPA has made approximately 8 acres of farm type land in a very nice rural location about 7 miles from the Show Site available to Registered Show Participants FREE OF CHARGE for 'primative' camping purposes. MIMVPA will place a porta john at this location, and folks utilizing this FREE location will be expected to make a small donation towards the cost of the porta john. This location will be available on a 'first come first served' basis, when it is filled it's filled-there is no more. There is also a State of Michigan primitive campground on Van Ettan Lake less than 1 mile from the Show Site. Vendors: There will be NO flea market type vendors allowed - military vehicle parts or military equipment or memorabilia only! Designated inside and outside vendor opportunities will be available. Those vendors that wish may simply set up their canopy/tent outside in the designated area. There will also be a secure inside vendor location; a very large and historic hanger which once housed F105 Fighter jets in the 1960s. The inside vendor location will be at an additional cost: $20 per standard table with tables and chairs provided. There will only be approximately 35 tables available, and when they are all reserved there are no more available. This inside location will be locked down and secured each evening at approximately 7:30PM and will not be unlocked until the next morning. Nighttime security of the show site/display vehicles will be conducted by MIMVPA officials and their designees. Those wishing to reserve secure, inside vendor tables can download a form HERE, in PDF format. There are no pets allowed on the Show Grounds, Hanger, or Wurtsmith Air Museum; Service Dogs are welcome! There will be no Live Ammo allowed at the Show! For those that wish to participate, we will have a Military Vehicle Convoy through Oscoda and on a few roads in the nearby Huron National Forest on Saturday evening at approximately 8PM. WINGS OVER GAYLORD Friday June 15th - Sunday June 17th 2012 MIMVPA Historic Military Vehicle/Equipment display/bivouac set up in conjunction with the Main Event - the Air Show. This is an MIMVPA event, and you must be a member to participate. Memberships will be available on site. Registered MIMVPA Participants will be given 2 - 'VIP' wrist bracelets to use during the event, which will allow access to, or free participation in a number of 'things' occurring during the Show. MIMVPA members can arrive as early as Thursday afternoon June 14th to establish their set-up spot. We will have an assigned area that is right in the thick of things next to the Runway, and will have a 'Front Row Seat' to the Air show. There will also be Active Duty/ Mi National Guard participation/presence from Camp Grayling proper, and the Camp Grayling 'Air Gunnery Range'. (This location, up North a bit from Camp Grayling off of the 'Waters' exit, is the largest Air Gunnery Range east of the Mississippi - a fact totally unknown to us until we convoyed there last year, and were given a guided tour and an amazingly gracious reception.) They are a contingent that is part of the Alpena CRTC (Combat Readiness Training Center), Michigan Air National Guard. We, the MIMVPA will participate and be the 'on the ground' contingent in the form of a vehicle convoy that will be coordinated with the 19 member Canadian Parachute Jump Team that will be dropped directly over Downtown and sail/glide to the Airport, with the first parachutist hopefully touching down at the same moment the first vehicle in our convoy enters the Airport proper. Hence- The INVASION has begun - which happens to be the theme for the kick off/event. Friday is 'Media Day' and club representatives will be interviewed by print, radio, and television media leading up to the event opening to the public. The Friday night 'Public' opening event will be a Dinner and Hanger Dance, with a 40's style Big Band providing entertainment. Saturday is the 'BIG SHOW DAY' and the Air Show itself. Please visit their website www.wingsovergaylord.org for additional detailed information! |
